More than ever, we must stand up for culture and civil rights in Europe!
Òmnium Cultural is a Catalan NGO based in Barcelona with more than 190.000 members and 60 years of history working for culture, social cohesion and civil rights. Historically, it has been a pillar for the promotion of Catalan culture and language and, over years, it has also become one of the main actors in the defense of civil rights in Catalonia. Through cultural activities, social cohesion projects and awareness campaigns, we also want to contribute to building a diverse, fairer and more democratic society in Catalonia and Europe.
Over the last years there has been a worrying increase in fundamental rights violations in the framework of the EU, and civil society can't watch these challenges without doing anything. This is why Òmnium Cultural has had an increasing international activity, mainly at the European level, defending its aims out of Catalan borders and internationalizing its projects.
For this reason, understanding that the defense of civil rights transcends national borders, we decided to establish Òmnium Civil Rights Europe, based in Brussels (Belgium), to be able to carry out this international activity from the heart of Europe, closer to European institutions, organizations and civil society.
